Overview

As the first five years of children’s life play a significant role in shaping their future development, our KG department aims to create a balanced educational experience by ensuring that our curriculum, teaching, learning and assessment are aligned. This helps students to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills throughout our programme by preparing students for their next stage in education. Our KG department is dedicated to fostering well-rounded development during the critical early years of a child's life.

Curriculum

Aligned curriculum, teaching methodologies, learning experiences, and assessments form the foundation of our KG programme. By integrating these elements, our aim is to ensure a balanced educational experience that facilitates knowledge acquisition, understanding, and skill development, effectively preparing students for the subsequent stages of their education. The KG department comprises three levels: Pre (ages 3-4), KG1 (ages 4-5), and KG2 (ages 5-6).

Creating a unique and cohesive student experience is a valuable educational objective. Our KG department is committed to designing curriculum strategies that build upon previously acquired knowledge and skills, ensuring that student learning remains connected and progressive as they transition from one year to the next.

The KG curriculum places equal importance on the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive domains, providing a stimulating blend of learning and play. Recognizing the significance of this developmental stage, our KG section embraces diverse learning approaches and offers a rich environment where children engage in hands-on activities, play-based learning, and social interactions through exploration.

Fine and Gross Motor Skills

To develop fine and gross motor skills, KG classrooms incorporate arts and crafts, puzzles, and other activities that require precise hand-eye coordination. By engaging in activities such as holding pencils, coloring, and cutting with scissors, students develop their fine motor skills, which involve the coordination of small muscles. In addition, Physical Education lessons and outdoor play areas in our KG provide ample opportunities for children to develop their gross motor skills. Running, jumping, hopping, playing sports, and games encourage physical movement, coordination, and the refinement of motor skills.

Language

KG aims to develop spoken language through bilingual education, with two hours of daily English instruction and one hour of Arabic instruction. Language, being fundamental to learning, thinking, and communication, allows children to share ideas, thoughts, and emotions. In KG, emphasis is placed on developing students' receptive and productive language skills through activities such as listening to music, stories, conversations, presentations, and reading books. Writing skills are also cultivated through letter formation and the construction of meaningful sentences, with both English and Arabic being incorporated through play in the classroom.

Mathematics

In addition to language subjects, KG introduces students to mathematical concepts such as number recognition, counting, number value, shapes, addition, subtraction (KG2), and word problems. The use of real-life examples and objects from the environment enhances students' understanding and recognition of shapes. This approach promotes spatial awareness, critical thinking, and the application of geometry in everyday contexts.

Social Studies

The KG social studies curriculum explores themes centered around celebrations, aiming to foster cultural awareness, a sense of belonging, and an appreciation for diversity. Students learn about various cultural celebrations, traditions, and customs, which encourages empathy, mutual respect, and understanding.

Science Education

KG science education nurtures children's natural curiosity and fosters a love for scientific exploration. By laying the foundation for scientific inquiry and discovery, this discipline sets the stage for further engagement in scientific learning as children progress through their educational journey.

Assessment

The assessment practices within our KG department are carefully designed to gauge students' acquisition of essential skills and knowledge. English and Arabic teachers collaborate to conduct assessments using a variety of methods, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of student progress.

By employing a comprehensive range of assessment methods, our KG department ensures a thorough and holistic understanding of students' abilities, allowing for targeted instructional approaches and tailored support to meet individual learning needs. Assessment outcomes serve as valuable feedback to inform curriculum planning and instructional practices, fostering continuous improvement and promoting optimal educational outcomes for our KG students.

Daily Observation

Teachers engage in continuous observation of students' behaviors, interactions, and participation in classroom activities. This method allows for real-time assessment and provides valuable insights into individual strengths and areas for improvement.

Assignments

Through thoughtfully crafted assignments, students are given opportunities to showcase their understanding of concepts, apply skills, and demonstrate their learning. Assignments may include worksheets, projects, and tasks that require critical thinking and problem-solving.

Checklists

Checklists serve as valuable assessment tools, enabling teachers to track students' progress against specific learning objectives and developmental milestones. These checklists provide a systematic approach to assessing skills and provide a comprehensive overview of individual student achievements.

Reflection

Reflection is an integral part of the assessment process in our KG department. Teachers encourage students to reflect on their learning experiences, identify areas of growth, and set goals for further improvement. This reflective practice fosters metacognition and empowers students to take ownership of their learning journey.

Parent Involvement

We recognize the significance of parent involvement in assessing children's development and progress. Regular parent-teacher communication channels are established to share assessment outcomes, discuss individual strengths and areas for improvement, and collaborate on strategies to support students' holistic development.

Facilities

Our KG department boasts a range of facilities designed to create a nurturing and engaging learning environment, promoting holistic development and facilitating various learning experiences.
